Amazon enlists advocates

Santa-fest ‘08 is less than a month away and yet what is that I don’t hear? Oh thats right; the rush of consumerism that ordinarily precedes the fat man dropping down the chimney. The reason, as if you needed to guess, is our recession-bound economy (a recession myself and Leo know an awful lot more about following a fascinating talk at LSE by Phillipa Malmgren).

So what are Amazon doing to shift some stock and avoid the kind of plight Woolworths finds itself in? Well, they’ve turned to their customers - 6 customers to be exact. They’ve assembled a rag-tag group of their most fervent reviewers to act as gift-guide experts (or as Amazon has termed them the “Holiday Customer Review Team“). To quote Amazon:

Need help finding that perfect gift? Some of our top reviewers are here to help you make informed decisions about what to buy your friends and family this year.

In essence Amazon have crowdsourced a team of customer advocates and this, ladies and gents, sets our social media loins alight here at R*M.
