Blu-ray Embeddable Flash Player

A while back I wrote enthusiasticaly about the Nike Embeddable Flash Player. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery we’ve worked with Hi-Res! to develop something similar for the Blu-ray Campaign for Sony. The significant advantages over using something like YouTube’s embedddable player is that we can control the look of the player, add various assets and as we’re serving the player we can update it with new assets as they become available.

Downside of course is that we’re paying for the bandwidth to broadcast the advert - but that can be seen as a cost of sale as it were. We’re not paying for media space after all. Built in Flash there’s an enormous amount of functionality that can be built into these and while I recognise we’ve just scratched the surface here - it’s a pretty start. I think the ability to control elements of appearance and fcuntionality is going to lead to a rise in customised embeddable players and in fact there are now available Open source embeddable video players such as the JW FLV player.

I think the quality looks much better than a standard YouTube video too. Plus, the links to the various goodies is great. I bet that didn’t come cheap. :-)

P.S. Have you added the video to YouTube for the viral element? I.e. So users can embed it to their blogs, Facebook pages etc.

Sorry, sorry. I’m an idiot. I hadn’t read your latest post before I made the last comment.

    Doh!

Just tried the embeddable player on my blog. Looks awesome. As does the high res version.

    V. nice.

Could do with a STAF mechanic in the next version? I think all basic YouTube functionality should be included

Good point. If we want this ot be the default - not a version found on YouTube - so we need to make sure it has all that YouTube can offer as well as the additional functionality offered by a bespoke solution.
