Laptopdance: The crowdsourcing highlights

Crowdsourcing the favorite crowdsourcing sites feels a little bit like looking at my own eyeball - or a Mandelbrot set. Anyway…we had a lot of fun looking at the different ways that culture is crowdsourced;

Top favorite was Sellaband; the site that enables bands to upload files and for the crowd to listen and then back them. This was of particular interest to one Forrester delegates who was looking for a way for his son to make a living from his Dj-ing efforts.

Close behind was a simlar site for crowdsourcing the funding, creation and then distribution under Creative Commons license of a feature film: A swarm Of Angels.

T-Shirts came a close 4th and 5th - with a discussion of the different business models behind Threadless and Cafe Press.

Final line honors were in keeping with much of the theme of the conference speakers - where is this all going as we pondered the wisdom of crowds and their ability to crystal ball gaze on Nostradamical.

    Hi Leo,

    thanks for the mention of Nostradamical.com. We’re a social prediction market for anyone that likes to tell their friends ‘I told you so’ when their predictions turn out to be true. People gain ‘future minutes’ based on how far they saw into the future and rise through 7 levels of status from Newbie to Grasshopper all the way to Oracle.

    We’re like a microblog with a twist, and are adding widgets, feeds and Friendfeed & Twitter integration. You can already publish directly to Friendfeed - check out our room here: http://friendfeed.com/rooms/nostradamical

    People can either make their own prediction or forecast against others. The Nostradamical Prediction Engine calculates a ‘group forecast’ compiled from many different forecasts to give a likelihood of the event happening.

    We are still in Private Beta and have invitations for a small number of visitors while we’re tweaking the site. Go there to sign up: http://www.nostradamical.com/

    Cheers!
    Brad
