myfootballclub.co.uk bidding for glory

Courtesy of our good friend Mark Palmer, we’ve learnt that Myfootballclub has reached their fundraising target of £1.35M (in just 3 months…) and are now in talks with 4 clubs regarding a purchase. Now, I’m all in favour of the wisdom of crowds being unleashed online, but Leeds United…? I’m looking forward to the inevitable re-purchase of David Hopkin, Michael Bridges and David Batty.
Things I’m wondering…what will be the responsibilities of the people behind the idea? Will they be the board members? Who will run the club finances? Quite an important question if you’re a Leeds fan, I’d imagine. Can we look forward to group SMS-based substitutions of a goalkeeper for a striker in the 90th minute?
Plenty of good lessons here for NGOs on how really motivating causes can create a great amount of direct action by supporters. Does anyone have any examples where charities have handed over the reins to their members in terms of spending cash on specific causes or issues?

We haven’t reached our £1.3M yet, still accepting members so why not join the revolution and make football history!
And I can tell you now that it’s not going to be Leeds!
