Prime Minister’s Question Time

Well before I start I guess I should apologise for my late arrival, but who would have thought that working for Iain and Leo would keep someone so busy?

So I’ve been in the office for 3 weeks now and I’ve been doing all sorts of research for the two slave drivers. My recent study has involved getting in touch, via email, with the Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign Office and the Prince of Wales websites (just to name a few). Now I’d have thought, being the young, naïve man that I am, that getting in touch with websites of this stature would result in your replies being dealt with in a quick and efficient manner. Well, I was wrong.

Having only heard back from three out of the six sites, my hopes and expectations have been dashed and I’m left hurting. If this was any other organisation, be it Sainsbury’s or my insurance company, I’d be complaining; so why should I change my ways? These contact links on web pages are there for a reason, and if I am going to go out of my way to use them I expect, at the very least, an auto-mated response. Is the government’s budget really that bad that they cannot afford an auto-mated emailing service?

I’m starting to think whether the government really cares about us. I mean, first we aren’t told about whether we are getting an election, and now they aren’t even bothering to reply to our emails? What is the world coming to.

Ally, welcome to hell the Thunderdrome the team…

I’m not at all surprised about the total lack of response from the digital offices of our elected (and unelected) representatives. UK politicians are way behind the US when it comes to digital communications. It’s not just the American political genius in leveraging the web for campaign funds, but in using at as direct communications tool. Compare the websites of British politicians to those of, say, US Senators. Our guys come off looking like amateur hour.
